Grading day Sunday 19th April
We are planning to hold gradings Sunday 13th April during the normal class times. Please attend the following classes:
Adults
10:00 to 12:00 at Garthwaite Pavilion
Juniors
17:00 to 18:00 Shenley Leisure Centre
Cadets
18:00 to 19:30 Shenley Leisure Centre. Cadet brown belt and above may also join the morning adult session (optional)
How it will run
I haven’t made a selection this time so anyone can attempt their grading. If you don’t wish to attempt it or don’t feel ready, please let me know beforehand or on the day. You may still attend the session anyway.
We will go through warm-up, basics, sandan-gi, moving basics . This will be the grading session for white belts (first grading).
Then we will ask all students white belt with black stripe and above (white belts don’t need to perform a kata) to perform a kata either in small groups or individually, depending on time.Students must be able to perform their kata to the required standard, correct footwork and hand movements. Please see the syllabus for the kata that they should perform Syllabus – Goju-Ryu Karate Milton Keynes
Please don’t worry if you do not pass your grading this time – not all students will automatically pass. Grading requirements become more challenging as student move up the grades. The higher grade students must therefore pay attention to details and accuracy. We expect higher grade students to perform good kata, with focus, good posture, breathing, power and timing.
Take you time
Don’t rush your kata. It’s better to do it slowly and carefully than rush though it with inaccurate movements. Trying your best ALWAYS is the most important thing.
Good luck everyone.
